This month's box features snacks from Chidoriya, a 386 year old snack shop in southern Japan. The store was established in 1603 near the port-city of Nagasaki, which was the only place in Japan where western goods were available. Historically Japan didn't have sugar, and it was only available in Nagasaki. Chidoriya was one of the first snack stores in Japan to utilize sugar in its snacks.

Tirolian Roll Cookies
These are one of the original cookies made using the same recipes and methods from way back when the store opened in 1630. The inner cream filling comes in multiple flavours. These cookies were so good and my favourite snacks in the box! The chocolate and coffee flavours were the best!

Tirolian Chococrunch
These mini-waffle crunch cookies are made with locally produced milk and butter, and baked for hours at a low temperature. They're then dipped in rich milk chocolate and baked again to give it a crispy texture.
Tirolian Hat
The second most popular snack by Chidoriya. These wafer sandwiches are also handmade and are the perfect light snack for when you're slightly hungry. I really enjoyed these too. They are very thin and the inner filling layer is spread very thinly. It really is a nice, light snack.

Lemon Yogurt Candy
A refreshing dual layered candy with lemon on top and yogurt on the bottom. I don't eat hard candy very often, but these were quite good!
Hanachidori
These moist manju cakes are made with top-grade finely milled bean paste. They come in two flavours: mellow white bean paste and the rich yellow bean paste mixed with egg yolks.

Happy Turn
Rice crackers that are both sweet and salty.
Pretz Corn
These corn pretzel sticks immediately went to the boys. They loved them!

Kuromame Senbei
These rice crackers have black beans baked right into them, giving them an earthy flavour.
Yaki Imo
These mini cakes are made with real stone-baked sweet potatoes.

January's Snakku was definitely my favourite box from them! I enjoyed the Tirolian snacks very much and the rest were fun and interesting to try! If you love Asian snacks then you'll love this subscription box. You'll discover unique snacks that are impossible to find here and they all come in some great packaging which I always appreciate!
