Snackbox by Foodee – June Review

Snackbox by Foodee– June Review

I discovered a new food subscription box from Gen over at onyxandmick.blogspot.ca. She raved about her May box and was offering 50% off coupon code on your first box. Not only that, but they are a Canadian company - Yayyy! I jumped at the chance to try this subscription box.

Snackbox is a product from Vancouver-based company Foodee. It is a monthly subscription service featuring healthy, gluten-free snacks. The snacks are selected based on their ingredients, and taste appeal. All snacks are natural, gluten-free, and some are also vegan, or soy-free.

Food.ee has given me a coupon code for of you to enjoy your first box for 50% OFF excluding shipping! This code will be valid until July 31, 2013.

Use coupon code: GIRLMEETSBOX

Monthly Plan: $33

3 Month Plan: $27 / month

6 Month Plan: $24 / month

Shipping is $6.95 throughout Canada

With the discount, taxes and shipping I ended paying $26.50.

From B.C. to Ottawa it took five days and actually arrived three days sooner than expected delivery date. I was very happy about that! I waited until everyone was home to open this box because I knew there would be something for everyone. I am always looking for new, healthier options to feed my boys and I. When I opened it my 3 year old wanted to dive in and I let him! This box was a huge hit at my house! It was a lot of fun opening it.

So here’s what was in June’s Snackbox:

First Look

Brother All Natural Freeze-Dried Fruit

Brother All Natural Freeze-Dried Fruit

I realize that this product is not in the first photo in this post. This pic was taken before my son ate the whole bag and then threw it in the garbage. I took the pic of all the products a day later which is why it's excluded.

Freeze-Dried Fruits are the newest and most innovative way for you to get your fruit servings. Each bag contains 1 whole banana and 4 strawberries, 1.5 apples/pears, or ¼ of a whole pineapple, with the SAME nutrition as fresh fruit.

This what what my son ate first and he devoured the whole bag! I was lucky to just try one piece. This is something I would definitely purchase again. Convenience and healthy snacks are what I’m about.

Hemp Hearts

Snackbox by Foodee – Hemp Hearts

Virtually the highest concentrated balance of proteins, fats, vitamins and enzymes, Hemp Hearts are one of todays leading superfoods. Soft in texture, these seeds taste a bit like a sunflower or pine nut and we love them sprinkled in salads, cereal, yogurt or eaten straight out of the bag.

I received these before from another subscription box, but I ended up giving them to someone who I knew liked these. I think I’m going to give them a try this time.

KIND Bar - Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein

KIND Bar - Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein

KIND Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein is a healthy & satisfying blend of peanuts and antioxidant-rich dark chocolate. Each bar contains 7 grams of protein, which promotes satiety and strengthens bones, muscles and skin. All natural whole nut and fruit bars made from ingredients you can see and pronounce.

I have received KIND bars from other boxes and have loved them every time. These really are a great snack and I love that it has 7g of protein in it.

Kopali Organics - Organic Mulberry

Kopali Organics - Organic Mulberry

Organic, pure, energy-packed and nutrient-dense. Kopali Mulberries are satisfyingly sweet chewy power treats, high in antioxidant vitamin C, iron, fiber, and a good source of protein and calcium.

These didn't seem too appealing to me, but once I gave them a try there were better than I expected. I wouldn't buy these again, but it was nice to try something different.

New World Natural Foods - Organic Chocolate Hazelnut Butter

New World Natural Foods - Organic Chocolate Hazelnut Butter

A natural energy food made from our finest quality roasted hazelnuts and dark 60% chocolate. No preservatives, artificial colours, flavours, or hydrogenated oils.

I don’t eat these type of spreads, but my son loves Nutella - so I know he’ll love this. I am more comfortable giving him this instead, it’s way more nutritious.

Bliss Balls - Coconut Cream

Bliss Balls - Coconut Cream

Bliss balls are unique, decadent globes of happiness! Made with the world’s finest dried fruits & nuts and immersed in premium dark chocolate to give you a taste of heaven. Bite into this healthy, guilt free boost of energy during, hikes, runs, lunchtime or whenever you crave for some bliss.

Sorry but you lost me a coconut. Definitely not for me, someone else can enjoy this.

Inka Chips - Plantain Chips

Inka Chips - Plantain Chips

This tasty and nutritious snack is made of Plantain slices, a banana’s cousin, delicately roasted in pure vegetable oil and sea salt.

Thank you Food.ee! I love plantain chips and haven’t had them in years. We eat them cooked which makes them softer, but if you’ve never had plantain before you’ve got to try it. There are different ways of cooking them depending on where you’re from, but they are really good. Plantain chips are obviously more crunchy. A great alternative to regular potato chips.

Seasnax - Wasabi

Seasnax - Wasabi

100% all natural premium roasted seaweed snack.

This scared me at first. Wasabi?! I’ve never tried it before and was kind of like I don’t want to either, but now I’m intrigued. It says strangely addictive on the package, so I’m going to go for it. Are you f***ing kidding me! It barely touched my mouth and was burning! Who eats this and likes it?!

YumEarth Organics - Organic Vitamin C Pops

YumEarth Organics - Organic Vitamin C Pops

YumEarth tastes much better than mass produced chemical candy because we choose real fruit extracts and planet friendly ingredients to sweeten our lives and yours.

I let my 3 year old indulge in lollipops occasionally, with reluctance. I was one of those people who swore they were never going to give their children any candy or unhealthy foods, but eventually you kind of give in and let him have a treat from time to time. With these lollipops I’m ok with giving one to him if they have 100% daily vitamin C.

Surf Sweets - Sour Berry Bears

Surf Sweets - Sour Berry Bears

Surf Sweets candies are made with only the highest quality organic and natural ingredients. Our gummy candies and jelly beans are naturally sweetened with organic fruit juice and contain no artificial colours or flavours...just pure goodness from nature.

Ok so another bag of candies? These also say they have 100% daily value of vitamin C. I’m not one for these kind of candies and little man does not need to have more sugar, so I’ll probably give these away.

Natural Nectar Gluten Free Cracklebred

Natural Nectar Gluten Free Cracklebred

This crispy cracker has a delicate texture, crispy crackle and light flavors and are the perfect accompaniment to your favorite spreads, cheeses and dips!

My boys LOVE crackers. If I were to let them that is all they would eat. These look really good though and I know they are going to be gone in no time!

Santa Cruz Organic - Raspberry Lemonade

Santa Cruz Organic - Raspberry Lemonade

The Santa Cruz Organic line do not contain artificial ingredients, these tongue-and nose-tingling treats can be enjoyed without worry. Santa Cruz Organic brand offers a refreshing certified USDA organic alternative to conventional sodas.

Lately I've been drinking carbonated lemonade, so this is great. Not sure about the raspberry flavour in it, but I'll drink it anyway.

Wow that was a lot to go through! Well I know everything will get eaten (except that Wasabi seaweed - that went straight in to the garbage)and we got to try some new products. I'm happy with this box and impressed with the number of products, but for being a “healthy snackbox” I was kind of surprised as to how many products had so much sugar in it - just sayin. I’m not sure of the exact value for this box, but I’d say I got my money’s worth. I’m unsure if I’m going to subscribe again. If the price was what I paid this month, I would keep it, but I think it’s just a little too expensive for me. It did come with a $5 off coupon for my next box if you fill out a survey, but I’m still undecided. Have you subscribed to Food.ee Snackbox? What do you think of this subscription box?
