Reading with my boys is a daily ritual, especially at bedtime. They're also at the age where they're learning how to read on their own and it makes me extremely proud to see their literacy skills improve. We like expanding their book collection with age appropriate books that are fun and appealing, and The Story Box is a great box for that.
The Story Box is a monthly subscription box that sends 2 children’s books that is curated by a nationally certified speech-language pathologist and a guide for parents. Boxes are appropriate for children ages 1 through 6.
They offer 3 box options: Board Books (includes two board books for ages 0 to 2 1/2), Picture Books (includes two picture books for ages of 2 1/2 and 6, and Family Package (includes one picture book and one board book for children in both age ranges).
Cost: $14.99-$19.99/month (longer plans available)

Along with your two books, you'll receive a Parent Guide that is specific to the books in your box and organized into various age groups. The guide includes quick, practical tips that will help you make the most of your family reading time and facilitate your child's communication and emergent literacy development. They also recommend some great activities you can do along with your new books.

Friends by Michael Foreman
This is a tender tale about an unlikely friendship between a cat and goldfish and their adventures together. The power of friendship is also demonstrated in this story by the bond they share and the kindness they show each other.

Big Bouffant by Kate Hosford and Illustrated by Holly Clifton-Brown
This is a bright and colourful book with detailed illustrations. The story structure and vocabulary present ample learning opportunities for early elementary children. I didn't think my boys would be too interested in this book since it's about a girl and her hairstyle, but once I started reading which turned into singing (the book is full of rhymes so it was fun to sing), it held their interest and we had a good time reading the book.

While I probably wouldn't have picked out these books if I saw them in a store, especially Big Bouffant (only because it's more appealing to girls), they're both great books and age appropriate. My sons love these big, colourful books, it just draws them in and they're able to sit through a full read. I also like the Parent Guide which gives you activity examples you can do with children and language concepts to improve not only their literacy, but vocabulary too.
