This is our second helping of Sweet Latvia. Mostly new offerings but a few repeats but that’s fine. An amazing assortment of stuff I have never even heard of before. I had the opportunity to share some of this stuff with some of my colleagues at work. One in particular is a chocoholic. He has a drawer in his office dedicated to candy and snacks.

One of our favorites was the Maigums, a charmingly airy vanilla zephyr coated with dark chocolate. There are three in a package and I split this with two other friends. We all wanted more. Vijolite, a cherry and pear flavoured is hard to explain. It is a sugar covered soft candy that crumbles in your mouth. It has a very different texture. Triss is a chocolate cookie with a caramel cream centre.

The Hazelnuts in Chocolate (Lazdu Rieksti Šokolādē) were excellent.

Vāverite is something we have seen before. It’s a chocolate covered wafer cookie with hazelnuts. Lācītis Ķepainītis is also a chocolate covered wafer cookie, this time with almonds.

A wide assortment of chocolate bars. Some repeats like the Marzipan and the Serenāde and the Sarkanā Magone.

Again the quality was good. Everything is marked with an expiry date and it’s all fresh. Most products are made without artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Again, there was a bit under the kilogram promised but I don’t think they could fit anymore in the box. Is it worth $40 dollars? The shipping is free and I figure coming from Latvia, it’s not cheap. A kilo of assorted chocolates is also quite expensive if you source makers like Lindt and Laura Secord. So in my opinion it’s good value.
