Opening this month’s Loot Crate magazine we are greeted with a line from Metallica’s song, "Fuel". "Give me fuel, give me fire, Give me that which I desire!" James Hetfield is a big fan of cars and speed and this song has been used to promote many high-octane sports like NASCAR. SPEED celebrates our favourite ways to go fast. From vehicles to superpowers, the articles cover it all. Take an in depth look at pop culture’s most notable vehicles. Also there is a wrap up from the San Diego Comic Con and an interview with the folks that draw Wonder Woman.

Batwing Keychain
Batman’s crime fighting plane has become iconic just like the Batmobile. I remember watching the old TV series and how rare it was to see something other than the car appear in an episode. You felt special. Now you can share in the icon originally introduced in the 1989 film and designed by Anton Furst. The model on this keychain was crafted and detailed using references from the Warner Bros. archives. It is matte black and a solid, heavy piece. Impressive. Some sharp edges so maybe not great for pockets. Only time will tell.

Stark Racing T-Shirt
Definitely a must have for F1 and Iron Man fans alike. Fine quality soft cotton t-shirt, black with the Stark Motor Racing logo. This reference takes us back to the second Iron Man film where Whiplash confronts his enemy Iron Man on the Grand Monaco Racing Track in Monte Carlo. I love the reference and if you are at the Montreal GP next year, you may see me wearing it.

Titans Vinyl Figures Scar from Battlestar Galactica
A 4.5” model of the ace cylon raider know as scar. The figure comes with a display stand as well. In season 2, Scar is the target of Kara Thrace (Starbuck) and Capt. Louanne Katraine (Kat) who both vow to be the one to fall the cylon pilot. A Loot Crate exclusive that any Galactica fan would treasure.

Hoodies Collectible Auto Ornaments (The Flash)
Ok, this item is by far my favourite in this month’s box. This is a 4” shiny silver hood ornament that can be attached to the metal hood of most cars. I say most because, carbon fiber, aluminum, etc.. will not work. So you pop this little guy on your hood and BAM!, instant original hood ornament. There were two options, The Flash and Arrow. We got the Flash who is in a sprinting pose, appropriate for driving on the hood of your car. I wonder what it will look like on my BMW?

1967 GT500 Ford Mustang (Eleanor)
Lock your car or it may be gone in 60 seconds! This die cast model is about the size of the hot wheels cars I used to play with as a kid. I doubt this version will fetch the price tag of 1 million dollars that the car used in the movie sold for at auction. In the original car, power comes from a 351 Ford V-8 crate engine, rated at 400 horsepower. Other specs include a four-speed manual transmission, lowered suspension with coilovers, 17-inch wheels shod with Goodyear F1 tires.

You also get a Loot Pin that unlocks something epic. You’ll need to login to your Loot Crate account to redeem the item. This month we have a shout out to the famous Goodyear Tyre company. The Pin is a tire peeling smoke as if it was in the throes of a burnout. The tire is labelled LootYear. How cleaver! Your Loot Pin will unlock a digital copy of Velocity from Image Comics.

The box itself folds out to make a hot rod complete with Lootyear tyres. Loot Crate encourages you to build it and take a photo with it so they can include the best ideas in the next issue of the magazine. The car comes in a few colours, we got the blue car.

I am a fan of Loot Crate and of geek boxes in general. I love collecting stuff, especially things that reference some of my favourite fiction. I think these collectibles are the equivalent of what my mother would call knick knacks - a small worthless object, especially a household ornament. As a child, I always wondered why she would want to collect these stupid items. I get it now. Loot Crate is once again, delivering value. The quality of the t-shirt and the exclusive items is excellent. It was difficult to source prices as most of the material included in the box was exclusive. You will have to wait for some of these items to go up on eBay to see what people will value them at. I have to go race some of these items and see who is fastest. See you in my rearview mirror!
What do you think of Loot Crate?
