This is the Doodle Crate special Halloween Candle Making Crate (#HalloweenwithDoodle) and it looked like a fun project!

This box is for older kids, but my boys wanted to do this project so badly that I let them help out. I wouldn't recommend doing this with younger children unless there is constant supervision since you're dealing with hot wax.

First you start by choosing the colours you'd like to use and cut the crayon up into small pieces. Fill the paper cup about halfway with and put your crayon pieces in the cup and microwave for about 45 seconds. Stir until the wax and crayons are completely melted and mixed together. While melting the wax and crayons in the microwave I noticed the bottom of the cup starting to burn, I got a little worried so I just lowered to power level on the microwave.

Then you pour a little wax into the center of your mold and place the wick on top and wait for it to harden. Pour the rest of the wax and wait 20-30 minutes for the layer to harden. This project was done over a couple of days since you only have one mold to work with. The boys didn't like that we couldn't compete them all at once and neither did I. I wish they would've included two more molds. Repeat the steps for each layer. Once all the layers have completely hardened, give the wick a gentle tug until the candle pops out of the mold. Now you can decorate your votive with the permanent paint pen and insert your candle.

This Doodle Crate was a very fun project and they boys loved it! We have lots of wax and crayons left over and will have to make more candles for sure! For more ideas on how to make your candles, there is a Doodle Crate link with a video to watch and more pictures. It's a great box and we loved how the candles turned out! This crate can be purchased individually or you can start a subscription with this as your first box. Be sure to use the 50% off code (SHARE10) that can be used for ANY crate!
