Beauty Box 5 Review – February 2014

Beauty Box 5 Review – February 2014

Happy Birthday Beauty Box 5! February marks the 2nd anniversary for BB5. I’ve been subscribing for a full year now and plan on staying with them for at least another year! BB5 was one of the first beauty subscription boxes I subscribed to and I blame them for getting me hooked!

I’ve seen some great boxes from BB5 and some misses in that time, but one thing remains, they are one of the most affordable beauty subscription boxes out there. And not long ago they had a promo deal where you could get an annual subscription for only $79 which brings the cost down to $6.58 / month. People that’s amazing and I hope a lot of you subscribed! Unfortunately, the deal is now over, but even at regular price, you getting a great deal.

Every month you will get a box filled with cosmetic products selected by their beauty editor. You'll receive a mixture of luxury, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Your beauty box will include a selection of makeup, hair care, skin care, nail care, fragrances and beauty accessories.

Cost: $12 / month, $30 / month (Quarterly plan), $99 / month (Annual plan)

So, with February being a special anniversary box, I thought that it would be a bit more special. I remember last year’s box which included Tree Hut Body Scrub in Coconut Lime and to this day it is one of my favourite products that I was introduced to over the last year.

I am liking the birthday/product info card. Prices and product info are nicely laid out. There is a coupon for $10 off for My Name Necklace.

Rockstar Nails - Nail Polish & Nail Sprinkles
$14.99 each

I knew this item was going to be in the box and you know what I’m going to say...not too excited about this! I’ve yet to try the whole caviar nail thing, but I’ll give it a try. Not quite feeling the hot pink colour of the nail polish and I’m pretty sure this polish is bad for my health. Holy chemicals and fumes! I can always use a different nail polish with the nail sprinkles.

H20 Plus SPA Hand & Nail Cream
$2.50 / 1 oz

I found this hand cream to have a nice, somewhat fresh scent. What I liked is how well it absorbed into my skin and wasn’t greasy at all. I can’t stand rubbing in hand cream and you still feel a greasy film on your skin, so I’m happy to get this.

Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara
$8 / 4 ml

I received this in my ipsy Glam Bag a while back. I still haven’t used the other one, so I’m not sure what I’ll do with this one.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Shampoo & Conditioner
2 samples w/ $2 off coupon

I’m glad that it is for colour-treated hair, but honestly this made the box disappointing. Maybe if they were trial sized bottles I wouldn’t have minded so much.

Well, I’m sure you can tell from my lack of enthusiasm that this wasn’t the birthday box I was expecting. I’m not jumping up and down because the value's great either. Pfft, that nail polish is not worth $15! So, this birthday celebration has come to an end and I’m left sitting here choking on the fumes of that god awful nail polish. Oh, BB5 if you weren’t so cheap I probably would have left you long ago, but you and I will be together for another year and I’ll probably be pissed at you most of the time, but those are the ups and downs of a long-term relationship. So, here’s to another year!
