ZBOX Subscription Box Review – July 2016

Fresh from the UK, prepare for the legend that is ZBOX. This month we take a look at the characters that have the fate of the world resting on their shoulders. They become famous for the inspiring and heroic deeds that pass into history. They are LEGENDS. The selection this month covers legends from some of my favourite TV, film, and video game franchises. As you can imagine, picking just a few would be difficult and no doubt someone's favourite gets missed. I hope you can look past the omissions and revel in the awesome selections that this month's box has to offer.

ZBOX is a monthly geek box themed around your favourite geeky interests and will include a variety of items tied to a monthly theme. Each month you will be sent a box containing over £35 ($50 USD) worth of exclusive, licensed merchandise. Perfect as a monthly treat or a gift for your geeky friends. ZBOX wants the box to be as much of the experience as the mystery gifts inside it, so every month the interior of your box will have been designed specifically around the theme. Other boxes they offer are: Gamer ZBOX and THREADS.

Zelda T-Shirt
$10

This is a ZBOX exclusive. The artwork on this tee is excellent and subtle with its reference to the video game that I loved as a teen. It will take the keen eye of a true fan to recognize this reference. I like that aspect of the art. I admit I still love that game and the idea that another incarnation is set to be released in 2017. Will I wear the shirt when I play the game? If it is not worn out by the time it comes out!

Zelda Mug
$20

The perfect mug for you to sip from when you sit down at twilight and embrace the darkness with an evening beverage. Designed with the Hylian shield of Zelda, it is perfect for any adventure really.

ZBOX Subscription Box Review – July 2016

It is a good-sized mug standing 4.5 inches high. The mug has a definite right-handed design. If you are left-handed you are going to get that shield up your nose every time. Guess who is left-handed?

DC Flash Figure

This month you can either get The Flash or Robin figures. Our box had the Flash. Either would have been fine with me, especially when you behold the quality of this piece. The figure is very heavy and solid being made of die cast metal. The paint and detailing is perfect. Love adding this to my shelf. I took a look online for this figure and I could not find it anywhere.

Arrow Vengeance Paperback
$6.50

This is an original story based on the hit CW series. It is written by Oscar Balderrama and Lauren Certo. Balderrama has served as the script coordinator on the series since the pilot episode. He made his writing debut on the show with the third season installment, "The Fallen". Now he teams up with fellow writer to put out he first tie-in novel. I am enjoying this work very much. I really like the references to episodes I have watched on TV. I think any fan of the novel will enjoy this. I hope the enjoyment holds out till I finish this.

Mario Kart Pull-Back Racer
$5

What better figure to have than the classic Super Mario. The classic cart with the rounded front bumper speeds across the floor when you pull it back and release it. Sorry, banana peels not included. I actually had the chance to meet the guy that does the voice of Mario at a Comicon a few years ago. It was so cool as I wasted a lot of time listening to that voice cheer me on around the track. Who was your favourite Mario Kart character? Who was your nemesis?

ZBOX Subscription Box Review – July 2016
There is a quote on the bottom of the ZBOX, a homage to one of my favourite Heros. “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future”. This comes from the adapted movie of J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, The Lord of the Rings. The quote is spoken by Lady Galadriel in the movie. That exact quote is not in the book and is not surprisingly made more cliché for the movie. In the book “The Fellowship of the Rings” the reference is taken from Elrond as he speaks at the council of Elrond and is as follows. “This quest may be attempted by the weak with as much hope as the strong. Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere." Could that guy write or what?

ZBOX Subscription Box Review – July 2016

As geek boxes go, this one from ZBOX was a bit heavy on the video game legends. Also repetitive with two products giving a shout out to Zelda. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the items in this box, I just felt they could have spread things out a bit. Again, all the items are of very good quality and will make the most discerning collector happy. I love trying to look up some of the items and not being able to find them on the internet other than maybe someone selling their ZBOX offerings on ebay. This box really brought back memories of the hours spent in front of the TV playing Zelda and Mario Kart. Zelda dates back to 1986 when it originally appeared in Japan for the Famicom Disk system. Later it was converted to the NES. Mario Kart has had many incarnations and originally appeared in 1992 on the SNES.

Next month we can expect to be invaded. INVASIONS is the theme. I am thinking Mars Attacks or Alien. Any guesses what will be covered?
