Surprise My Pet Review + Promo Code – May 2016

Surprise My Pet is a pet subscription box for dogs and cats that sends a monthly assortment of pet toys, treats, accessories and other little surprises for the pet lover. There are 5 to 7 items included each month. The boxes are tailored to your dog’s size which you identify when you sign up. The company also supports animal welfare charities. They donate 10% of their profits to US shelters and charities.

Cost: $30/month, $28/month (3 month plan), $24/month (12 month plan)

Shipping: US - Free. Worldwide shipping is now available but I have no idea what that would cost. When I entered Canada as the destination address the shipping cost was $20. Yikes! I could not find any other info on the website. Also their FAQs link is still down. Make sure that you send an email if you have any questions.

Jeffers Plush Turtle
$6.99

This little toy is perfect for a small dog. This one will be enjoyed by my friends Chihuahuas. You might see a turtle from your beach chair at the cottage but now you can give one to your dog to play with. This toy is very soft and lightweight with a squeaker dogs love.

Incredibubbles
$4.99

This is a strange item. I have seen dogs chase bubbles before and I am sure there is a YouTube video somewhere to prove that. This product is a non-toxic product that makes long-lasting bubbles. The packaging also boasts peanut butter flavor infused bubbles as well as being allergen free. This product comes out of China and has absolutely no ingredients list. I did not try this with Stella and I have no intention to try it.

Pet Qwerks Doggie Disk
$4.99

The original interactive dog toy. This is perfect for playing in the park for a dog that loves to fetch and chase. What more could any dog want? Oh yah, maybe some treats after a successful return. The disk itself seems to be a good size as it is a bit smaller than a standard size disk. Seems to be weighted well. The only bad thing is that Stella will not chase it.

Fro-Yo To Go
$10.99

Made by a company called The Bear and the Rat which makes cool treats for dogs. These are freeze-dried yogurt treats and do not need refrigeration. There are 11 calories for every 20 bites. So it is a yogurt treat but it is sweet potato and carrot flavour. This product is made in the USA and is free of corn, soy, wheat, gluten and grain. Visit the website for some cool recipes using some of their treats. I especially like the notes attached to some recipes. For example, did you know that xylitol is toxic to dogs and can be found in some peanut butter?!

Beach BBQ Bites
$8.99

A California company with some interesting links on its web page. The box included a sample of both chicken and beef jerky treats. Beach BBQ Bites are made from premium cuts of 100% Natural Chicken & Beef Jerky that is manufactured and processed as human grade jerky in a USDA licensed facility in California USA, and it is sourced only from California free-range farms. According to Stella, they are delicious. The company donates 15% of its sales to a pet rescue or shelter.

HelloFresh Discount Card

This one is for the pet owner. It's a $35 off coupon to your first box from HelloFresh, a meal/recipe subscription box. You choose a recipe from the menu and HelloFresh sends you everything you need to make the recipe. The regular price of the box is about $69 for 3 meals for 2 people. That is cheaper than a restaurant but at a restaurant, I don’t have to cook and do dishes.

Surprise My Pet Review + Promo Code – May 2016

My opinion of Surprise My Pet has not changed. Overall, I am not super impressed, especially with the website. The FAQs section on the website is still not working and I suspect that shipping questions may be answered there once the website is finally completed. I do not find the website very informative or user-friendly. Another problem I have as an international client (Canadian), I have to pay for shipping and from what I could figure out, it is very high. The shipping box could be a bit smaller considering what comes in the box. Maybe a smaller box would help reduce the cost of shipping.  This may be a standard size box that this company uses and they use it for shipping all size dog shipments. On the plus side, I did like the quality of some of the products this time around. The treats were USA sourced and good quality and the toys were also very good quality. When my friend's dog got a hold of the little turtle, she went nuts. So much so that they have to hide the toy because the dog gets too excited when the toy is out. The bubbles? Well, for the most part I would be fine with them but the non-toxic peanut butter flavoured bubbles leaves me a bit uneasy. The actual value of the products is around $30 after I checked out prices online. I did this because the info sheet was not accurate. For international customers, it is just not worth it. I suspect Surprise My Pet is targeting a US customer base. One thing remains regardless of where you are from, this subscription box company needs to get it together.
