RawSpiceBar Review – January 2015

I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely packaged the spices were. They came in a pretty paper envelope and they spices come in individually sealed, zip-loc packets.

RawSpiceBar Review – January 2015

RawSpiceBar includes an "origins, instructions and recipes" card for each spice blend that includes the blend's history, cooking and storage instructions as well as suggested recipes. RawSpiceBar also includes another 5-10 recipe ideas for each spice blend on their site, and they are sure to provide a great variety of options for vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, gluten-free and healthy eaters alike. January's Navajo Inspired Spice Blends:

Ground Chiles

Toasted and freshly ground red chiles including New Mexico, Ancho, Guajillo & Arbol create a medium hot powder that is complex, smoky and slightly fruity, with a touch of heat that mellows out while cooking.

Posile Spices

Toasted cumin and coriander plus freshly ground Mexican oregano are key spices for creating a Navajo inspired posole rojo in New Mexico. These warm and earthy flavours have a slightly citrus twist due to the Mexican oregano. Use in sauces, salsas, rubs, sets to anywhere you'd want to add and earthy, savoury flavour.

Sumac & Herbs

A New Mexican herb blend of rosemary, Mexican sage, Mexican oregano, thyme and fennel plus black peppercorns, garlic, cinnamon and sumac provide an herby, peppery, spicy tanginess for our Navajo flatbreads.

RawSpiceBar Review – January 2015

RawSpiceBar comes with 4 different spices and 3 recipes. If you break it down it works out to be $1.50 per spice which I think is a very good value. I like that they feature a different cuisine each month and give you ideas on how to use the spices. Their blends contain only the spices listed on each blend with no added fillers such as MSG, salt, rice, sugar or flour. Spice blends are also free of contaminants such as dust and pests that can occur in pre-ground spices.
