July’s flavor kit included 4 spice packets and 4 recipes, the featured country is Peru.
Spice #1-Chile-Limon (8 Tablespoons)
Love this packet! It is full of flavor, cumin, paprika, coriander, Peruvian Aji and Panca chiles, Mexican Oregano and Keffir Lime.

Spice #2 Aji Amarillo (7 Tablespoons)
Simple flavor of hot Peruvian Aji Amarillo Chiles.

Spice #3 Peruvian Pink Salt (9 Tablespoons)
Pure and simple, coarse Peruvian Pink Salt. A little goes a LONG way!

Spice #4 Aji Panca (9 Tablespoons)
This packet is of ground Peruvian Aji Panca chiles...the heat is moderate and the taste is complex. A great spice to open up my culinary world.

Recipe #1 Ceviche Mixto
This recipe is one that I tried out. It uses three of the four spice packets and was an absolute hit at my house. My husband and I had Ceviche at a Peruvian restaurant so I could not wait to dazzle him with it at home. This recipe was spot on! It had a bit of heat, tasted like it came out of a fancy restaurant and took me back to date night and that feeling of being in another country.

I had to make it, and must say it was delicious!

Recipe # 2 Chili-Lime Chicken
This recipe uses two of the four spiced mixes. It looks easy to make, and I look forward to the combo flavors of heat and citrus.

Recipe #3 Lomo Saltado (Beef Stir-Fry)
The stir fry uses two of the four spice packets. I would enjoy trying this with shrimp as well as the beef.

Recipe #4 Peruvian Potato Salad
Yummy! This may be an interesting twist on a classic to bring to a BBQ. The recipe uses two of the four recipe packets, and total time for prep and clean up is about an hour.

I really enjoyed the Piquant Post flavor kit! Truly, when it arrived, it seemed light, not much to open and I was going to have to go grocery shopping and cook on top of everything else. The thing is, what I found is that the concept of Piquant Post helps to create adventure in my life for a very good value. The spices that are delivered are easily enough spices to make each recipe at least twice. If I was to go out and buy half of these spices on its own, I would spend over the $11.99. The twist here is that instead of buying spices that I may use once, there is a sense of curiosity to play with the spices I have just received. Instead of making that same old boring side dish tonight, maybe I will spice it up and use a recipe from the Piquant Post flavor kit. I love this idea. Again, it was fortuitous that I had just gone out to a Peruvian restaurant for date night and had been crushin' hard on Ceviche, but it is exciting to think that once a month a little adventure would come to my door, no heavy restaurant bill to pay, just a bit of inspiration to watch the budget and cook some new, flavorful food. This subscription is perfect for the foodie who actually likes to cook and needs inspiration. The investment is worth the culinary excursion!
