Dragon Pearls

The Dragon Pearls are truly delicate pieces of art. They are made of very high quality green tea, comprised solely of the top two leaves and bud of the first growing season (early April) called the first flush. After being plucked, the leaves are carefully hand rolled one by one into small pearls. I couldn't resist trying this tea first. The name alone sounds so interesting! I definitely noticed a higher level of quality in this tea and it has such a unique look. The info card has references to bud and fluffy, hairy down which are a sign of the superior quality, but it reminds me of something else if you know what I mean. ;)

Oolong Tea (Ti Kuan Yin)

The secret of oolong tea lies in its complex layers of flavour, hence steeping it several times to explore its complex palate is highly recommended. The leaves are tightly rolled. Once steeped, watch them unfold into large broad leaves, it’s quite the show! Among all varieties of oolong tea, Ti Kuan Yin is considered the best. The distinctive flavour of oolong, or black dragon in Chinese, comes from its distinctive method of processing. It requires repeated cycles of disruption, oxidation, partial fixation and rolling in order to develop a more complex palate. With each round of oxidation, more flavours are added, culminating in a crescendo of taste.

Lychee Congou

Scented teas have been around for centuries and the easiest scent to produce according to traditional recipes is Lychee, an emblematic fruit for the Chinese people. The fruit would be plucked from the lychee trees and squeezed, resulting in a finely flavoured tea. This Flowery Orange Pekoe grade tea from the Fujian region of China has a delicious lychee taste!

Pu'erh Special 3 Years

Pu'erh tea is vastly different from regular tea. This special Pu’erh has been aged 3 years, resulting in an earthy and musty character. It is the only variety which gets better with age, like a fine wine. This is because it is derived from maocha, an unoxidized green tea grown in the Yunnan province of China, where the best pu'erh teas in the world are produced. As it ferments, its earthy flavours are accentuated and get better with age. Because of this, Pu’erh is packed with numerous health benefits, such as the ability to fend off cancers thanks to its anti-oxidant properties, and can aid in weight-loss by revving up your metabolism. Both these highly sought-after health benefits are why Pu’erh has been a hallmark of traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.

Miletea Subscription Box Review – April 2016

I really enjoyed this month's Miletea box! They did a great job curating some very unique teas for this box! Since reviewing Miletea last time, they have made some good changes such as, lower prices and more tea per box. Who doesn't love paying less and getting more product?! If you're a tea drinker or know someone who is, you should check out Miletea!
