Luxe Box Review – Winter 2013

Luxe Box Review - Winter 2013

Oh man! I am not excited to do this review. I’ve kind of had a love/hate relationship with Luxe Box. This box comes off as luxurious and high-end. Their packaging has always been one of, if not my favourites. However, this Winter Box has made has left me scratching my head. Something seems to be changing with Luxe Box and I don’t think in a good way.

Loose Button members receive a seasonal Luxe Box with 7 to 8 trial-sized beauty and lifestyle items picked by our beauty editors and enjoy complimentary shipping to their preferred address. Ah, that’s it! 7-8 trial-sized items. It used to say deluxe samples. Uh-oh..

Luxe Box Review - Winter 2013

Like I said, I‘ve alway loved the packaging. The rectangular, thick sturdy box with the Loose Button symbol stamped in gold on the outside with Luxe Box stamped in gold on the inside of the box. The contents packed in a reusable silky drawstring bag. What’s not to love?!

Inside the Winter Box 2013:

Kérastase Elixir Ultime
Full Size: $54 / 125 mL
Sample: $1.30 / 3 ml

I keep getting this sample in almost every Luxe Box. The product seems good enough, but getting basically one or two uses out of it, I can’t really determine if it’s that good.

Evolvh UltraShine Moisture Shampoo
Full Size: $24 / 250 mL
Sample: $7.20 / 75 ml

It makes no sense to me to get shampoo without the conditioner. I think I’ve used this brand before, but can’t say for sure. It has a clean, refreshing scent, but I’m very particular when it comes to shampoo. I have colour-treated hair, so even though it says for every hair type I still prefer to use shampoo specifically for my hair type.

Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Lash Plumping Mascara
Full Size: $19 / 9ml
Sample: $5.28 / 2.5 ml

A minuscule sample. I had no expectations for this mascara, so I when I gave it a try I was pleased to get nice results. Nothing dramatic, but it gave me good definition and went on evenly without any clumps.

L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Full Size: $30 / 150 mL
Sample: $2 / 10 ml

One of my favourite hand creams! Only wish it was a bigger sample...I know I’m a broken record.

Loose Button Lip Brush
Full Size: $14

I’m happy with this. Lip brushes are always welcome.

theBalm Mini Stainiac
Full Size: $17 / 8.5 mL
Sample: $2.40 / 1.2 ml

Oh, I didn’t see you hiding there at the bottom of the bag hehe. I like the colour of this product, it has a gel like consistency and it’s easy to apply. Don’t be afraid of the bright red, it goes on fairly sheer with buildable coverage.

Essie Nail Polish (No More Film)
Full Size: $11

Y’all know what I’m going to say...not excited to get nail polish. Although I do love the colour, it's a blue-purplish shade and I can’t complain that it’s full size!

I find it hard to believe that Luxe Box thinks it's acceptable to give out boxes like this. This isn't a cheap subscription box, so I expect more for my money. Yes, you have the option to upgrade your box, but for more money - no thank you! I'm at a point now that resubscribing ain't happening. What is going on with Canadian beauty boxes?! This is embarrassing! Why in the hell don't we have something like ipsy here?! We've lost a few subscription boxes this year and now the one's that are left are not much to be desired.  Please, will someone come out with an inexpensive Canadian beauty box that meets the standards of ipsy or better!

Were you happy with your Luxe Box? What do you think of this subscription box?
