The boxes for June are: "Adventure" and "Bathe" (review to come).
Dear Venturers & Voyagers, Romantics & Pioneers,
Adventure is an impulse. It is also a muscle. It requires the ability to plan and the gumption to let go, the ability to carry and the surrender to toss. It calls for just the right accessories—threadbare, essential.
What are you waiting for?
Run. Jump over things. Go where it’s beautiful. Where it is forbidden. Find something hidden. Sneak around. Climb to the top. Go to the bottom, to the edge, go the distance. Plot a course. Get lost. SLEEP UNDER THE STARS. Spontaneously. Metaphorically. Take a dirt road. Get dirty. Get in a tree. Be adventurous.
The info booklet gives you details of each item in the box and stories of the artisans who make them.
Wildlife Works Drawstring Backpack (Kenya)
This drawstring backpack is made by workers in the Wildlife Works EcoFactory. It's made of Kitenge fabric and comes in assorted colours. I love the bold print and colours! It's perfect for running errands, going for a hike, or just as an everyday bag.
Enamel Travel Mug (India)
This enamel-coated stainless steel mug is lightweight, durable, and ready for ruggedness. It is hand-painted with a pretty design. We received a similar cup in the June 2016 Artisan Box. R uses the cup all the time so I knew he'd love this one. Now we each have one!
Maggie's Organics Cush Footie (Peru & US)
These thick socks are made from soft organic cotton so soft and fit below the ankle. They have full foot padding so they're very comfy. These socks are usually made from farmers co-ops in Nicaragua, but sadly, these farmers lost their cotton crops this year due to unpredictable weather patterns brought on by climate change. With the problem-solving underway in Nicaragua, these socks have meanwhile been made with organic cotton from Peru, where farmers are also experiencing climate-related downturns. Maggie's is currently planning a special premium for these farmers to help them pay for water.
Block Print Bandana (India)
The painstaking process of woodblock printing, an art form native to Rajasthan which produces pieces that all emerge a bit differently from the intricate process of patterning, boiling, and cooling. I love the print on this bandana! It's multi-purpose and is essential for any adventure. Wrap it around your forehead to shield your face from the sun and your eyes from sweat. In a pinch, you can also use as a sit-upon, sleep mask, signal flag, impromptu sling, water filter, washcloth or compress.
This month's GlobeIn Artisan Box has a total value of $61. I really liked the "Adventure" theme and all the items fit the theme perfectly! They're beautifully made items that are useful and will last for years to come. I plan to put them to good use and make some great memories with them!
