The theme for May is “We’re Victorious”. For Canadians, Victoria Day Weekend is a signal that summer is finally here. Time to start gardens, spring cleaning, and opening the cottage. Summer means vacations and relaxing. This month's Bowzer Box is dedicated to just that, relaxing with some good treats, getting back to the outdoors and dreaming of the long summer to come.

I try most of the products from the doggie subscription boxes on my Jack Russel/Beagle. She is a 7-year-old 20 pound bundle of energy named Stella.
Northern Biscuit Wheat Free Biscuits
$12
This is a company I really like. Frankly there are a lot of things I like about Northern. They are environmentally, socially and health conscious. Their packaging is made from recyclable materials, they partner with a community living project to label bags, and they care about what ingredients go into my Stella’s treats. The biscuit in this month's box are lamb flavour. The lamb is a free roaming, exotic protein from the grassy hills of New Zealand that makes this biscuit a healthy alternative to beef and easily digestible for sensitive stomachs. Its rich and savoury flavour is paired with sweet North American blueberries and cranberries for added antioxidants. Slowly baked with whole barley and rolled oats grown and milled locally. The package ingredients are barley, lamb, oats, cranberries, blueberries and mixed tocopherols. Tocopherols are a natural preservative. That's it! There are no other additives. Stella loves these treats, but I will be honest, her favourite is the liver treats.

Northern Biscuit Bark! Dental Chew
$2
The second offering from northern biscuit company. Again, this product contains all natural products. An irresistible dental chew to promote proper oral health and clean teeth. The rugged exterior and chewy interior helps to fight plaque, tartar and gum disease for an all-mouth clean. This Bark! features a drool-worthy chicken recipe blended with easily digestible ingredients, perfect for those with sensitive stomachs. While high in protein and low in fat, they act as a healthy alternative to jerky and rawhide. What do you think Stells? “Bark!”.
Eco-Friendly Pet Waste Bags (aka Poop Bags)
$1
These waste bags are good for the environment and your neighborhood. Pick up after your dog! What else can I say about this product. They are poop bags.

Multipet Mossy Oak Plushy
$12
There is no way that anything else will ever raise the hair on my dog like the sight of a squirrel. This plush toy has that squirrel shape and is camouflaged by the premier camouflage brand, Mossy Oak. This toy is ideal for retriever games and contains squeakers to bring that level of excitement you love about your dog.

Treats Happen Dehydrated Beef Lung
$38.97
One of the most expensive treats I have ever seen, these grain free dehydrated beef lung dog treats are a favorite of picky eaters. They are easy to break up for training and a great for motivation. Sliced thin, it’s easy to break up into small pieces for training, rewards, or distraction. The odour make this a very high value treat. Personally I have not seen this company before. I like the product is made from Canadian beef and made in Canada. The product label even identifies the province that the beef is sourced - Ontario. Treats Happen has an interesting service where they will send you a package of your favorite treats every month and every fourth month is free. That is certainly worth it as some of their products can cost over $70.

My Pet Code
$24.99
This product is very cool. It's a lost pet notification system. It is a small medallion that goes on your pet’s collar. If your pet becomes lost and rescued, your pet can be easily identified. The basic package is simply the price of the tag. You can then enter a profile for your pet, get email notifications and a phone call when your pet is found. This product really shines when you pay the $25/year to enable the GPS tracking. My beagle is always a flight risk, once she gets the scent of something she wants to go and cannot hear a word I say. If she were to get away (and she has) this product would make it easy to find her.

This month Stella and I are still loving Bowzer Box. I love that they are Canadian and source many of their products from our Great White North. The value is good too. Two full size bags of high quality treats is an excellent inclusion. I think every box I have received has had some sort of dental chew in it. I do appreciate that. It’s one item I often neglect to pick up for Stella and it is the one thing the Vet often tells me that Stella could use; a toothbrush. Also an item I appreciate is the poop bags. I feel like as long as I have a subscription box, I’ll never run out of poop bags. There was one bonus item in the box that was not on the info card, and that was the Pet code. This was an interesting bonus and extremely useful especially if you activate the GPS. Maybe something like this can reduce the Lost Pet posters I see in the city. The value of the box is once again solid. This is what I expect from a subscription box, excellent products that I can try with my pet. A really good example is the Beef Lung at $38. I would never impulse buy this in a store but having tried it now and recognizing the value in the product, I might be more inclined. If there are other Canadians out there that are getting this box, I would love to hear your thoughts on this subscription box.
