Artisan Food Club Review – February 2015

Artisan Food Club Review – February 2015

Artisan Food Club is  a monthly subscription by Warm Wishes Gifts that allows you to discover and taste full-size premium artisan foods from Canada and occasionally, from around the world. The food and beverage items you will receive in your bushel (or box) are not everyday grocery store items. The products have been lovingly handcrafted by some very passionate people. Each item in the bushel is carefully selected for its quality and combined with other products to create a theme of the month.

There is very little commitment, you can choose to do a one time thing or sign up for a three-month subscription. Your bushel of goodies will show up at your doorstep the second Monday of every month or the last Monday of the month, depending on when the subscription was made.

Warm Wishes Gifts which is based in my hometown Ottawa, is a company that also sends beautiful, unique gifts and gift baskets in addition to the Artisan Food Cub. You can select from many gift baskets or have yours custom-made.

I was thrilled to check it out this new service, especially since the companies involved are all local! The bushel came hand-delivered and it was just beautiful! February's theme is "Maple Madness".

TreeWell Sparkling Maple Sap
$20

Canadian maple sap is unlike any other beverage on the planet. Crafted seasonally in small batches, TreeWell's sparkling maple sap tastes like the first hint of spring. Crisp, subtly sweet and absolutely refreshing. TreeWell is best served chilled in a tall champagne flute, surrounded by good company.

I've never had Maple Sap before, so I'm looking forward to sharing it with friends. It comes packaged in 750 ml champagne-style bottles with real corks and wax seals. This is a non-alcoholic beverage, but mixes very well with a variety of spirits. I love the wooden Tree Well decoration, it's so rustic.

Really Horrible Enterprises Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup & Rum Vanilla Maple Syrup
$10 each

Some of the bitterness that is associated with maple syrup is filtered out by the charred oak which also adds a bit of smokiness to the finish. This is the syrup your grandfather used to make (if you had an incredibly awesome grandfather).

We tried the Barrel-Aged Syrup first and it is very good! I like the bit of smokiness and the name of this company just cracks me up! The Rum Vanilla one has real rum in it, so that one will just be for Mommy and Daddy.

Sushina Artisan Baked Goods Maple Bacon Donuts
$5?

Lovingly made by hand and baked fresh the day you will receive it, these decadent donuts will knock your socks off with its perfect salty and sweet combination.

My husband and I couldn't wait to try these! Bacon on donuts, yes please!! We so wanted to love them, but I think they may have been undercooked. They were baked fresh that day, but were very soft and the middle tasted like raw dough. I also couldn't find any info on this company, but I would like to try more of their baked goods.

Happy Goat Coffee Company The "G"
$9.50

You could say that Happy Goat’s roasting style is unique in the coffee industry by bringing back the old artisan touch and by taking a hands-on approach with every step to discover and preserve the true nature of coffee. They take freshness and small-batch roasting to the extreme. This way you are guaranteed the highest standards in freshness and quality unsurpassed anywhere else.

I love trying new coffee! This unique blend is spicy with a velvety texture and nutty aroma. Notes of cinnamon and brown sugar. Happy Goat Coffee Company has its own coffee subscription that ships nationwide.

Almost Perfect Vanilla Bean Pancake Mix
$7?

With a recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation, Almost Perfect Pancake Mix is made using only organic and natural ingredients.

The boys LOVE their pancakes and I'm curious to try these too. The vanilla bean flavour sounds pretty good. I also couldn't find any info on this company, so my price is just an estimate. There is enough to make about 15 pancakes.

Artisan Food Club Review – February 2015

February's Artisan Food Club has an estimated value of $61.50. The value is lower than the cost, but shipping is included (for Ottawa) and I didn't count the cost of the bushel which you can reuse. Considering that, I think the package is a fair value and above all, I absolutely love the products! I was introduced to many new food artisans and I can check any of them out since they're local. I should mention that if you subscribe and are not in the Ottawa area, you will receive products from other Canadian artisans. Artisan Food Club would make the most wonderful gift for any foodie or for any special occasion. This is a subscription I would love to receive and give to someone else. Remember to subscribe before March 31st to get a discounted price of $65 per basket.
