I will be making my first ever trip to Japan in April 2017. This has been a dream of mine to visit the country that may be the most innovative food country in the world. The Japanese are known for their attention to detail. Every detail, from the ingredients that go into the product to the packaging. In Japan, every town, every region has something that it is famous for and usually made with local ingredients. Often times, a local mom-and-pop shop has been making snacks for hundreds of years, passing down the tradition and recipe for generations. Snakku supports that tradition.
Snakku is an authentic Japanese snack subscription box. The snacks that they include are high quality snacks directly from Japan that you can’t get anywhere else. You can expect about 10-13 tasty snacks in every box!
Cost: $38.95/month – Longer plans available.
Shipping: US - Free, Canada, Mexico, UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Ireland - $5-$14

Snakku also offers a Tasting Box for $15.75/month + free shipping. You’ll receive 5-7 expertly curated Japanese snacks. This box is only available for US customers.
This month Snakku is doing something different. This is their first fan favourites box. This subscription box has delivered snacks from Japan for a little over a year now. This box tries to capture the snacks that their subscribers have loved. You cannot please everyone so you might see something here that did not impress you with respect to your tastes. Enjoy, I will!
Just like the packaging, the info card is a beautifully illustrated, simple image of Mount Fuji with a hint of cherry blossoms. The reverse side is full of information, including snack ingredients and images. Not sure if they are just left out, but one thing I noticed was the lack of preservatives in the ingredients list.
Kobe Cream Sandwich
A very popular snack from Kobe featured in our April 2016 Spring in Japan” box. Lightly baked wheat pastry puff cookies filled with either chocolate or vanilla cream filling.
Ogurasansou Mini Arare Senbei
They featured Ogurasansou in the September 2015 Snakku box. They have been making traditional Japanese rice crackers for over 60 years. All of their senbei are hand made in their store in Kyoto using only the finest, locally sourced ingredients. In each bag are a variety of mini senbei of different shapes, sizes, texture and flavour.
Shiroi Koibito
By far, the most popular and award-winning cookie from Hokkaido. Shiroi Koibito translates to “White Lover” and it is a simple yet delicious cookie which has white chocolate sandwiched between butter biscuit. These were included in the October 2015, “Snacks from Hokkaido” box.
Yakitoukibi
A very popular snack that you can only get from the famous Sapporo Ohdori Park. This snack is made from locally grown rice and sweet corn. The grilled corn and rice crackers are glazed lightly with soy sauce, giving it an amazing sweet and salty flavour. These were also included in the October 2015, “Snacks from Hokkaido” box.
Shiogama
A snack made by a Buddhist temple in Sendai. Each piece is carefully handmade using the original recipe and the techniques are passed down since the 1600s. The outer layer is made with a mixture of finely milled, locally produced rice from Miyagi, shiso (Japanese basil) from Sendai, and premium sugar from Tokushima. The inside is filled with lightly salted Azuki red bean paste. This snack is a favorite of Japan’s royal family.
Wa Fusen Candy
Japanese ramune soda candy that looks like traditional Japanese balloons. Included here are grape strawberry and lemon flavour.
Bourbon Raisin Sandwich
Super delicious puff baked cookie filled with rum soaked raisins.
Gilco Cream Colon
Cookie rolls filled with mildly sweet Japanese cream.
Happi Turn
It is hard to describe these rice crackers. They are both sweet and salty. They are delicious.
Shiro-ebi Brown Rice Senbei
Crispy organic brown rice, rice crackers infused with Japanese sweet shrimp.
This box is priceless when you think of the unique experience you delve into when you unbox these treasures. The products contained within the fine packaging will never be found at your local convenience store. It is the cheapest way to take a tour of Japan without ever getting on a plane. Lets face it, Japan is all about the food. When I will be asked why I came to Japan, my answer will be, Tabemasu, “to eat”. Snakku brings a little bit of the Japanese experience to you. Out of all the subscription boxes I have ever seen or reviewed, this one encompasses the meaning of the phenomenon. A box that delivers stuff that you cannot get anywhere locally or even order online. This is my absolute favorite box. Even after I unbox it and see the contents, it still holds the excitement of flavours I have never tasted before. Snakku, you deliver the quality I would expect from Japan. Thanks.
