January's box introduces you to tea picked from the estates of Nuwara Eliya, located 2000m above sea-level in the central province of Sri Lanka or Ceylon.
Black Tea from Nuwara Eliya
This tea strain of black tea known as Orange Pekoe. The leaves have been broken down into finer particles and is the form most usually used by Sri Lankans. Orange Pekoe is a superior tea strain widely sought-after by tea lovers! It produces a lighter golden liquid filled with a rich aroma.
Spices - Cinnamon Bark, Nutmeg & Dried Ginger
The spices come in these small woven baskets. I didn't want to make a mess so I didn't take them out of the bags.
In this little box is 5 tea bags with the 3 spices (cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg) that you can add to your prepared tea for what they call a "flavour bomb".
Inside this cute pouch is a small disposable strainer to strain your tea from the saucepan to your tea cup. It comes with an interchangeable cloth that can be cleaned in the washer. There's also a biodegradable wooden tea spoon to measure your tea.
Alakaban Tea is a great tea subscription box! I really liked how well presented and packaged the box is. Everything in the box is made in Sri Lanka by local small businesses, so you're supporting small business in Sri Lanka while sharing great tea. Any serious tea drinker would really enjoy this box!
